Do you like a good food post? If yes, this is it! I’ve been holding on to these pix, waiting for Thanksgiving week, the perfect time to talk all things food!

Deciding what we’d serve during the Jessie’s Girl Turns 50 party weekend was almost as fun as planning the decor! Since the party keep getting pushed back because of the pandemic, the extra 18 months of prep time became a bonus, letting us deliver an eating extravaganza! All 3 days involved great food, each event getting it’s inspiration from @rickspringfield songs ❤️

Friday night: the “Celebrate Youth Welcome BBQ” at our home.
To keep this night casual, we used food trucks instead of caterers.

@innout truck - Serving their famous double-double. Make sure to order it “animal style”, just trust me!

@poutinebrothers fry truck is one of the most popular food trucks in Los Angeles, serving nothing but fries! Not just any fries - poutine fries, covered in cheese curds and gravy! While the short rib topping was incredible, surprisingly, so was their vegan and GF option made with vegan mozzarella, gravy & 'parm' cauliflower, yum!

@icecreamoccasions is considered LA’s celebrity ice cream cart. The Kardashinas and singer Drake are among those who call them when they need a sundae break. My favorite flavor: pistachio!

For Saturday night's “Jessie’s Girl Turns 50”, @sherwoodcountryclub we had food stations from the four places I’ve lived. Too many options to list, so here are the highlights:

Kansas: Pulled pork sliders & cornbread
LA: Street Tacos
Georgia: Chicken & waffles, grits bar
San Francisco: Beef & broccoli, Chinese chicken salad

Sunday Morning: “Don’t Walk Away Hungry Brunch”.
We called on the gals @lattesonlocation who set up an incredible bagel and yogurt bar. But the star of the morning: their photo lattes! Yes, you could say @rickspringfield was even at this event 😉

What would you guess is the dirtiest part of an airplane? The seatbelt? The food tray? The window shade? Surprisingly, none of those. The spot with the most germs is actually the air vent! Yep, that thing most of us touch at some point during a flight is also a part of the plane that doesn’t seem to get enough attention when it comes to cleaning.

Since it’s above our heads and not in our line of site, it’s often overlooked by the cleaning crew as well.

So next time you’re on a plane wiping everything down from you seat to your spouse, make sure you don’t miss the air vent. And for good measure, wipe down the light switch & window shade as well 😉

When it came to decor for Jessie’s Girl Turns 50, we rolled out the red carpet for our guests, literally! Here are a few other decorating highlights I though you might enjoy:

Life-sized @rickspringfield cut with a custom step and repeat backdrop (featuring Rick’s albums) so everyone could take a picture with him. I must admit, there’s nothing like having a pic with the real thing!

Balloon arch highlighted the memorabilia my mom, Norma Jean, sent all the way from Kansas. I’m so thankful she kept all of this in her basement! These are the actual posters that used to hang on my wall through middle and high school. I had a blast walking down memory lane with Rick,I know it’s hard to tell from the photo 😉

Custom concert posters were hung throughout @sherwoodcountryclub.

Table were topped with these handmade cassette vases, each featuring one of Rick’s albums.

Due to COVID restrictions still in place here in Los Angeles, the concert had to be outside in a tent. Rick’s crew spent days setting all of their lighting, sound and scaffolding up.

Larger than life banner - 3 feet wide and 8 feet tall by @westcoastcustoms hung on our patio for the events Friday and Sunday…confession: I still have it up!

Day 5 and we’re heading home from ‘ol Mexico! But before we adiós we have a few stops to mention!

Jumex Museum - @museojumex is an incredible contemporary art museum which features some amazing installations. This wall made of gold chain necklaces was my favorite. Then there was the video art of a man who decided to walk into a tornado with a camera! For someone who grew up in Kansas, it was a little hard for me to watch 😳

Next door in the building that looks like a sequined boat cleat is the @elmuseosoumaya museum. It was surprising to find more traditional art here as the outside definitely makes you think otherwise, right? We took a few minutes to take in works of the masters and of course, the silence. All prepping ourselves for the return home to the hustle and bustle of husbands, kids, pets and what will most certainly be a sink full of dirty dishes.

A memory we’ll be taking with us: the @balletamaliamx Instead of a curtain, they have a breathtaking window made of Tiffany stained glass which opens like a garage door to reveal the dancers. The show was as amazing as the building which it calls home, the @palaciooficial

If you’re wondering what we ate today, well let’s just say our bug eating days are over…for now! My last meal was actually @starbucksmex in the @plazacarsooficial mall. I grabbed a seasonal option which I’ve never seen in the states: Ham and cheese with an apple chutney spread on a raisin roll. It was served hot and was honestly delicious, I could have had 2 🤗

Mexico City Day 4: From ancient history to holy mole!

National Museum of Anthroplogy in Chapultepec Park: @munalmx is home to the world’s largest collection of ancient Mexican art. Highlight: Pillar waterfall fountain, basically the largest rain shower you’ll ever see!

We did other things today, but I’ll cover those tomorrow because one event stole the show: lunch @Pujolrestaurant Ranked the 12th best restaurant in the world, this was a treat! From start to finish, the entire 7 course meal was spectacular!

The star and THE thing that put them on the map is their mole. The one we had today has been cooking for more than 7 years (2648 days to be exact) and has over 50 ingredients! They serve you the sauce on a plate by itself with a side of these amazing tortillas which are half corn and half real leaf. Here’s a pic of the plant they use. In an effort to be more sustainable, their entire menu is fish and plant based.

And make it day 3 of eating insects! Pujol served us more flying ants (Chicatanas), this time in the form of a mayonnaise based sauce on the most incredible corn I’ve ever had. These were much better than the ant butter we had Monday night at a different eatery. So I’d you’re going to try these little guys, have them at Pujol.

For the perfect ending, their churros. These could possibly be the best on the planet. We all agreed, they were the most incredible any of use have ever had!

Special thanks to the folks at Pujol for inviting us to see their kitchen, it was like watching a food ballet. And to my friend @kim_thesavvytraveler for making this meal happen, thank you, girl! 🥰
