Get to Know Me

Hi! I’m Lora, that helpful mom and friend who’s here FOR YOU! Sharing my “Fancy Yet Frugal” hacks for your Home, Kitchen & Life with a bit of real life comedy…longest running life moment to date: packing lunches for 30 years and counting! Born and raised in Kansas, my Midwest roots keep me grounded in my adopted hometown of Los Angeles where I live with my husband, Scooter and kids (1 grown, 2 still at home) and of course, my little Gremlin dogs.

As an Emmy award winning TV journalist and former network news correspondent with decades of experience, I developed a love for sharing positive and useful information with others. I created LORAfied to help elevate your everyday with tips and tricks anyone can do! Here you’ll learn something helpful, practical, and sometimes a little whimsical to help you through your day. I’m thrilled you’re here!

How to do life better AND on a budget.

Come for the tips, stay for the fun! Let’s do this together, sister!

My Crazy Crew

I’ve always said we’re just a camera crew away from a reality show, LOL! Scooter and I both had practice marriages in the 90’s, mine blessing me with our oldest, Kid 1, who’s now 31. After a decade of being a single mom and basically being left at the alter, I met Scoot on a plane and my life was forever changed. We added Kids 2 & 3, because, well, empty nesting is over-rated, at least that what we tell ourselves to make it through the day!

LORAfied FAM

Our daily calls mean so much to me! If you’re wondering what I’m talking about, head over to my Instagram stories, where I call you to check in every day. I LOVE talking to you and especially meeting you! The LORAfied Family is so special to me, the amazing community of women and a few cool men has touched me in ways I couldn’t have imagined. I’m so glad we’re on this ride together! I’m here to hold your hand and let you hold mine. I need you, sister and I’m THRILLED you’re here 🙂

What is in your detox smoothie recipe?
1 cup water / 1 scoop vanilla / chocolate protein / ½ cup frozen wild blueberries / Handful of spinach / 2 Tbs hemp hearts or 1-2 Tbs walnut butter / Hardy dash of Ceylon cinnamon / Handful of ice / Optional add-ins: 1 tsp Bee Pollen / 1 Tbsp Chia Seeds / 2 Tbsp Sea Moss
How do you stay healthy and fit?
I’ve been pretty focused on healthy eating since moving to Los Angeles 34 years ago. This town opened my eyes and made it easier to make better choices, so It’s just become a way of life. It wasn’t easy, I landed here thinking breakfast was biscuits and gravy with an ice cold coke, LOL! I will still let myself have the biscuits and gravy as a treat, as I don’t think anything should be off limits once in a while. I wear an Oura ring (linked in my shop) which really helps me make sure I’m getting all of my steps in every day. Over the years, I’ve lifted weights, but will go through long periods where I just can’t stand it, so will take breaks, then will finally get back in action. The biggest game changer has been dialing in my eating. Gone are the days of eating whatever I want whenever I want! 90% of the time I’m a low-carb eater and really try to avoid sugar. I’m not a fan of chemically made sugars, so will use pure stevia instead and always have a small bottle in my purse. I focus on protein at every meal and snack. Breakfast is a luxury for me, so I will usually add chocolate collagen to my coffee in the morning to keep going with a few drops of stevia and nutpods French Vanilla creamer, it’s delicious! I’ve linked all of these in my shop for you! Oh, and after dinner, I won’t let myself snack! I find if I have enough protein in the evening, I won’t have cravings for anything later that night. Ps. The stevia is powerful, you only need a few drops. The little bottle will last a long time.

Your Questions Answered

How did LORAfied start?
I’m that awful combination of early bird + extreme neat-nick! My oldest talked me into channeling these potentially annoying traits into something useful so I’d stop driving my family crazy!
Is Instagram your full time job?
Yes! LORAfied is currently on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest and growing! Toss in the website and the time to create the content, I log anywhere from 40-60 a week.
Who is Kid 1?
She’s our oldest! At 31, she’s been done with college and out in the world on her own for years. She’s around a lot so you may catch a glimpse of her in my IG stories or a post once in a while!
Do you have a travel agent to help plan your trips?
Yes and no. Scooter and I both have wanderlust and share an intense love of travel. If you follow my IG stories, you know he travels all over the world for work and we tag along when we can. Some of the travel is based on his work, some for pleasure. I will usually work with a travel agent for hotels as they do get better pricing, but we usually book our own flights and rental cars. I generally book our guides through a travel agent as well. Overall, I’m very involved with the planning of all of our trips and keep detailed files of our journeys for future planning.
What is your everyday makeup routine?
If you follow along on my Instagram stories, you know my Before and After is HUGE, LOL! If I’m working, it’s the full kit and caboodle: Primer, foundation, eyeshadow, liquid eyeliner, lash primer, mascara, brow pencil and tinted brow gel, concealer, pressed powder, contour powder and blush. Lip liner, lipstick and gloss and sometimes a finishing powder. The days I’m not shooting is a much quicker routine: foundation, a little eyeshadow in the crease of my eye, and little wings of liquid eyeliner in the outer corners of my eye, which I blend with a brush. Lash primer, mascara, tinted brow gel and a little blush. Instead of lipstick, which I only wear if I’m working or out to an event, I’ll just wear a lip gloss.
What is your hair routine?
My stylist isn’t going to love this answer, but I use Pantene shampoo and conditioner, one of their newer “free” ones without all of the chemicals. I will use the G. Tox shampoo once in a while and will rotate in Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Deep Conditioning Hair Mask, but not that often. Before I blow dry I use about a dime size of Living Proof styling cream. My hot rollers are from Conair and I have them linked in my store as well. All of these are in my shop if you’d like to check them out!
What do you use to whiten your teeth?
Professional Zoom whitening at the dentist office, the LED one. It’s way less painful than the old fashion one.
What is the best way to remove stains from white clothing?
Mix equal parts hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and water, apply to the stain, scrubbing, if it won’t damage the item, let it sit for up to an hour, then check the stain by brushing off paste and then washing as normal in the hottest water the fabric can take. Although I’m not a fan of bleach, I do resort to once in a blue moon: 1 part water to 3 parts bleach is the most effective way. Apply directly on the stain, let if set a few minutes, again washing with the hottest water the clothing can handle.
